Get Involved
Become a member
Becoming a member of the Nelson Tenants Union is the best way you can get involved in the fight for housing justice. As a democratic organization, membership means you get a say in how the union is run, a vote at our General Meetings, and the ability to join or start any working group we have running.
As we get off the ground, a membership also means you are contributing financially to the union’s success. We offer a sliding scale so you can pay as little as $1 a year, and unhoused people are able to join free of charge.
Ways you can help
-
Facing an issue as a tenant can be a daunting and isolating task. Nelson Tenants Union is here to provide urgent help to neighbours who reach out to our phone line or Get Help form. You can help us track and respond to requests from those in need. Thank you for considering this!

Our community is full of creative artists and designers who can use their talents for collective power. We rely on our members to help us create the content and resources that help us organize. You can help by volunteering your skills to design social media graphics, event posters, presentations, and more. Thank you for considering this!

While it is simple to understand that housing is a human right, achieving that reality in our speculative market economy can be complex and frustrating. You can help us by compiling or conducting research so the resources we provide and the solutions we advocate for are up to date and backed up by the best information available. Thank you for considering this!

Connecting neighbours requires actually meeting and listening to and trusting each other. That means knocking doors to canvass neighbours, collect signatures, or offer help. Or providing warms meals and time for people who are unhoused. You can help us by having conversations with each other. Thank you for considering this!

Education and mobilization are key pillars or our strategy. We believe that when our community is informed and organized we can move mountains. You can help us with tasks like arranging venues, planning speakers, distributing flyers and posters, and spreading the word about actions and events like our Know Your Rights events. Thank you for considering this!
